We recently carried out jet washing at Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI), part of our continuation of construction cleaning works at the site.
The project, spanning many years, has numerous works covering internal refurbishments, internal redesigns and new build developments of hospital wards at the University Hospital Bristol NHS Foundation Trust complex, in the centre of Bristol.
We have already completed works to a number of refurbished and newly built wards, including new cardiology cath labs, where all invasive cardiology investigations and treatments are undertaken.
Works have included post-construction build cleans and high-spec clinical cleaning, ensuring that each ward is perfectly cleaned, dust-free and sterile.
More recently, we have carried out jet washing to the externals and roofs, which was carried out to improve the safety and overall operational effectiveness at the site.
We were tasked to clean algae across areas at which other trades were set to carry out work. Due to the safety concerns that algae can bring, a hazard which can include slips and trips, it was necessary to remove this prior to other trade carrying out their work – giving them a safer working environment.
BAM have very high health & safety standards and have put in place strict policies and procedure that must be followed at all times. Slip, trips and falls on the same level account for 26% of all non-fatal injuries on construction sites each year throughout the UK – the leading cause of accidents. Risks like this must is reduced or removed removed, where possible. Bam are rigorous in identifying, reducing or removing safety risks, ensuring all operatives remain as safe as reasonably practicable while they are carrying out their duties.
The likeness of an accident happening when there is a build-up of algae greatly increases when trades are carrying tools and work material around such a hazardous area – especially when their primary focus is on the task at hand. Our operative experienced this first-hand and the dangers of high algae build-up and how it can be a serious hazard. Even when their primary focus is on removing said algae and carefully stepping and moving throughout such a hazardous area, you can lose friction between your boots and the ground below, slipping very easily at any moment.
We take safety seriously here at Simply Cleaning. Our cleaning services can help not just the hygiene level at a site but also improve safety in many other ways too, such as keeping a site tidy and clear, allowing a clean and clear path for trades and management to conduct their work.
This cleaning work, carried out by our CSCS qualified jet washing team, will likely have a great impact on the safety level at the site, reducing the risk of slips and trips significantly.
